(LANSING, MI) --- From 13abc with contributions from WILX-TV

Chanting "Nazi's Go Home!" a group of protestors rallied at Michigan State University prior to a campus appearance by a white supremacist leader.

Multiple arrests were made at the scene according to 13abc sister station WILX-TV.

Officers with batons lined up around the group and some people were on the ground as they were handcuffed and arrested. There were no details regarding the charges against those taken into custody.

Michigan State Police, Lansing Police and Michigan State University officers were part of a strong police presence. WILX reporter Alani Letang reported that police were trying to maintain a calm, peaceful presence.

The protests took place as white nationalist Richard Spencer made an appearance in East Lansing. Civic leaders recommended opponents stay away from the area for safety reasons.
