MONROE, Mich. (WTVG) One person has died following an accident in Monroe early Monday morning.
According to Michigan State Police, a semi truck and a pickup were traveling East on M-50 when the pickup abruptly pulled into the lane in front of the semi, causing the semi to collide with the back of the vehicle at the intersection of M-50 and Herr Road just after 6:30 AM. The pickup driver was transported to an Beaumont Hospital in Trenton for treatment. The semi driver, a 54-year-old man, did not survive his injuries.
Police have shut down the eastbound lanes of M-50 while they investigate the accident, the cause of which is currently unknown. Drivers traveling North on Herr Road will have to turn West onto M-50.
The westbound lanes of M-50 are open.
