TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Toledo police say the city parks and pools are a safe haven for our children . Officers have been ordered to take extra trips around the play grounds to make sure kids are having a great summer.

Joe E. Brown park has a basketball court, a trail for folks to walk or exercise and a swing set. Police want to make sure kids have a safe place to have fun.

"Officers are encourage if they are taking a report to stop in the parking lot of the park or stop in the parking lot of the city pool. So there's that presence there. Majority of the kids are looking for a place to be kids and to exercise and have fun. we want to ensure that's a safe space for them," said Toledo Police Lt. Kevan Toney.

Officers also urge residents to pick up the phone and call 911 if they see that small percentage of kids that will ruin it for others.
