TOLEDO, Oh (WTVG) - More than 1,500 people in Toledo were left without power early this morning after a car crashed into a pole, bringing down power lines. That power has since been restored.
Toledo police attempted to stop the car after the teen suspects allegedly threatened an off duty police sergeant.
The dark blue Honda was allegedly seen speeding down Revere drive. A TPD spokesperson says the officer yelled to driver to slow down. The male teen drove around the block and exchanged words with the officer. The driver questioned the witness about who he was standing with. The teen allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officer and said "I just wanted to know who I'm about to kill."
The car sped off, but the off-duty officer was able to get the license plate number.
Officers spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it. The short pursuit ended when officers deployed spike strips at S. Detroit and Garden Lake. The driver swerved to avoid the strips and went off the road crashing into a pole.
Several power lines came down on Detroit at Garden Lake Boulevard. Police closed the roadway to traffic while they worked to investigate that crash.
The teens were taken to a local hospital and charges are pending.
