MAUMEE, Ohio (WTVG) - The flashing signs are up along I-475 Southbound warning drivers they'll have to navigate a ramp closure for the next several months.
If you normally take I-475 South and use the US 24 interchange to head west, you're going to have to detour.
The ramp is slated to close Monday night for 165 days as crews work to realign it. This coming after ODOT conducted a safety survey in the area and determined drivers are taking the ramp far too fast.
The project will allow drivers to take the ramp a little quicker, without sacrificing safety.
"We've seen, unfortunately, a lot of crashes into our guardrail there. We've seen cars go down into the cove, so this is to mitigate what we're already seeing out there," Rebecca Dangelo said, Public Information Officer for ODOT District 2. "Obviously it's not going to be a 60 mile per hour ramp. You're still going to have to reduce your speed, but it'll allow people to take it a little quicker, which is what they're already doing."
You can detour this closure by taking the US 24 East exit, staying right on the loop to hop on I-475 North and staying right again to get onto US 24 West.
