Recreational marijuana is now legal in Michigan. Thursday marks the first day since voters approved it in the last election. However you may have to wait longer before you can get it. The only thing that happens is that you can now legally smoke pot in Michigan and not get in trouble. There is no place that is selling it legally for recreational use.
You can however buy it with a medical marijuana card at places like Third Coast Dispensary in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The recreational shops aren't open yet. You can grow it yourself and smoke it without legal recourse if you are 21.
The shops have to be clearly defined by the state. "They're going to have to come up with a licensing framework and decide who qualifies for licensing and that's where municipalities will opt in or out," says Kevin Grace who works at Third Coast Dispensary. That is expected to take the next year with the first shops set to open in 2020.
