STOPS Day in Sandusky County Nets 109 Traffic Stops

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Officers from Fremont, Sandusky, and Norwalk Highway Patrol Posts were joined by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office and Fremont, Clyde, Bellevue, Woodville and Gibsonburg Police Departments made 109 traffic stops during what is called a STOPS day to educate motorists about traffic crash dangers.
There were five fatal traffic crashes killing seven people in Sandusky County last year. This year that number has increased with eight fatal crashes causing eight fatalities. STOPS days are designed to remind motorists to obey the law and drive safe. Unsafe behaviors targeted were speeding, driving impaired, failure-to-yield, and distracted driving. These behaviors were the cause behind the majority of the fatalities in Sandusky, four caused by speeding or driving off the roadway, two failure-to-yield, two driving left of center and three involving impaired drivers.
Future STOPS days will be coordinated in Sandusky by the Fremont Highway Patrol Post.
