Huron Fire finds body of 18-year-old missing swimmer at Nickel Plate Beach

HURON, Ohio (WTVG) - UPDATE: At 7:20 AM on Tuesday, fire department reported that they found the body of 18-year-old Alvin Martin. The Erie County Coroner has released his body to a funeral home.


A search resumed Monday morning for an 18-year-old who went missing while swimming at Nickel Plate Beach Sunday, according to Marblehead Coast Guard.

Authorities tell 13abc that Alvin Martin was last seen in the water trying to help two children in distress, approximately 50 yards offshore. Police paroling the water in that area safely pulled the two children, ages 13 and 10 to shore, however, Martin was never located.

The Huron Police Department, Huron Fire Department, and Sandusky Fire Department are assisting with the search.

Marblehead Coast Guard says they are using every resource available, including a helicopter to search for the swimmer.
