According to Becky Bennett, the mother of another runner on the St. Ursula Academy Cross Country team, Alyssa Heer stopped to help a member of the opposing team during the Ohio High School Athletic Association preseason meet in Hebron (near Columbus) this past weekend.
"Alyssa gave up about 60 places and 2 team places, but that didn't matter," said Bennett in a note to the St. Ursula Athletic Director, which was provided to 13abc. "The girl was suffering from heat exhaustion and her legs were buckling under her. Alyssa put her arms around her and assisted her all the way to the finish line."
Bennett snapped the above photo of the moment and says Alyssa helped the struggling runner for about 300 meters.
