Student arrested after school threat, no danger at the district

PETERSBURG, Mich. (WTVG) - A student in the Summerfield school district is in the Monroe County Juvenile Detention Center after a school threat investigation.

According to Superintendent John Hewitt, another student overheard the suspect make a comment Wednesday about a potential shooting at the school. That student reported the conversation to a family member who contacted the school, says Hewitt.

The school liaison officer from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office investigated and found evidence of the inappropriate comments. Authorities questioned that student and arrested him.

Hewitt says he activated the school's alert system and notified parents of the threat. The district says there was never a credible threat and no students or staff members were in any danger.
