PETERSBURG, Mich. (WTVG) - A senior student has been arrested after making verbal threats to students at a Michigan high school. According to an alert sent from the district, the incident happened at Summerfield High School in Petersburg.
13abc spoke with superintendent Jack Hewitt by phone just after noon on Friday. Hewitt says authorities arrested the student just about an hour before our conversation.
He says several students reported overhearing the threats this student allegedly made. Hewitt says the district does not believes there is any current threat to students or staff.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office posted the following on its Facebook page around noon: "We are investigating a threats complaint at Summerfield High School. We currently have a suspect in custody and have the situation under control. The Sheriff's Office is working in conjunction with Summerfield Schools to address the matter. We will have extra patrols at the school so if you see patrols cars at the high school that is what we are doing. At this time we are not releasing the name of the person we have in custody."
