At. MacQueen Orchards in Holland, the owners say they can't remember a spring this wet in the last 10-15 years. The sunshine and warmer temperatures that arrived Tuesday are helpful on a number of levels.
Right now it is the middle of pollination season. Hundreds of thousands of bees have been brought in to pollinate the trees. but that got off to a slow start because of the weather. The bees were pollinating in full force today.
The rain has also delayed planting at the orchard. Jeff MacQueen says they still have a couple thousand trees to plant. He says that is usually done in April, but it will likely be 4-5 more days before that's finished.
In spite of the wet spring, the MacQueen family expects to have a good harvest later this year.
