A 71-year-old woman is being treated for hypothermia after a water rescue from a Monroe County creek.

According to Frenchtown Twp. fire chief Wendy Stevens, the woman suffered a medical issue and drove into a creek in Kiwanis Park.

Chief Stevens says the incident happened around 5:00pm Thursday. The woman's son called 9-1-1. Chief Stevens calls the central dispatcher who took the call a hero.

She explains the son could only provide a general location of the incident. The dispatcher got the woman's phone number, called her and pinged her cell phone That led rescue teams to the her vehicle.

After about an hour in the frigid water, rescue teams pulled her to safety. Chief Stevens says that rescue could not have taken place without central dispatch.
