Young woman with terminal cancer fulfills bucket list

MONCLOVA (13abc Action News) - A young woman, battling a rare and terminal cancer, is making the most of the time she has left by creating a bucket list.

Ashleigh Hunt, 22, native of Whitehosue, has a long list of things she plans to do.

"It's a lot of trips and concerts and stuff that I want to do," said Hunt.

She created a bucket list after getting heartbreaking news three years ago.

"I was diagnosed with ostemosarcom," said Hunt. "It came back, so we decided that we are going to do this to see how much I can get done and how much fun we can have in this low time."

Hunt was diagnosed with the rare bone cancer when she was just 19 years old.

"It's been about a 3 1/2 year nightmare really," said Ashleigh's stepdad, Mark Rupp. "Thanksgiving in the hospital, Christmas in the hospital, New Year's in the hospital."

Four weeks ago doctors gave Hunt a grim prognosis- the cancer had spread and the tumor in her lung is inoperable.

"Their hope is to prolong her life at this point," said Jodi Rupp, Ashleigh's mother.

They're making each day they have together as a family count, and one by one, they're determined to fulfill the items on her bucket list.

Today, Hunt is crossing off one of those items: flying a fighter jet.

"I am so excited! This is awesome. I never would have dreamed this!"

On Thursday, Hunt took part in the 180th Fighter Wing "Pilot for a Day" program. It's something that she says started as a childhood dream.

"We have gone to the air shows many times, especially here, and we have seen the Blue Angels," said Hunt. "I loved watching them do the different tricks so we thought, I thought, it would be fun idea just to try and see if we could get up there."

Because of her cancer, Hunt could not actually fly in the jet, but she helped launch one, complete with her name on the side.

Thank to her fighting spirit, Hunt is determined to complete her bucket list.

"Tons of laughing, smiling, just making sure there is a way to be positive."
