TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - The gridiron's heating up for another year of high school football, but for some area schools, the competition off the field can prove just as fierce. 13abc is partnering with Goodwill once again for the "Pass It On Challenge", now in its 7th year.
"We started with just 6 schools," says Goodwill retail director Tim Kralovic, "and now we're up to 20 different schools and hitting a lot of the outlying counties."
The task is simple: Donate from 11am to 6pm at the trailer placed on campus for the week. The trailers are then weighed on Thursday, with the winner announced on 13abc Action Sports the night of the game.
Kralovic says that last year, schools across northwest Ohio donated "162,000 pounds of raw donated goods, which is great because it goes back into our community, to help with job development, job placement and job training."
TVs and computer screens are not up for donation, but things like furniture, smaller appliances, even books are encouraged.
The winning school for the week also gets a $500 scholarship from Goodwill, not to mention those coveted bragging rights.
Week 1 kicks off this Thursday when Napoleon takes on Defiance. For a full list of competing schools, click here.
