2021 Solheim Cup prep continues as the Marathon Classic Presented by Dana takes place in Sylvania

SYLVANIA, Ohio (WTVG) - Plenty of quiet noise this week at Highland Meadows Golf Club.

Behind the scenes of the annual LPGA stop in Sylvania - even with the U.S. Junior Amateur on-site at the Inverness Club - work for the 2021 Solheim Cup is quietly moving along.

Tournament Director Becky Newell is busy this week touring sites around Toledo for additional events with ties to the golf event at Inverness.

"It's been definitely one of those things that we're about 99.9 (percent) sure that we'll have opening ceremonies at downtown at Promenade Park," Newell said. "There's a lot of firsts here for 2021 Solheim Cup. When we look at Opening Ceremonies, it's always typically been held on-site. When we look at our 'Solheim After Sundown,' been on-site. So we're really trying new things with the community."

Those new ideas extend away form Inverness and up Monroe Street to Hensville and the ballpark for an off-site Solheim Cup event. Even further down Monroe Street, we may see an event at the Toledo Museum of Art as the organizing committee tries to build up the passion for the Red, White and Blue.

Back downtown, Promenade Park could also return as a site for an additional event since the large screen provides options.

"We're getting ready for the 2019 event which will be in Scotland," Newell said. "So we'll launch tickets for 2021 in September, so kind of be paying attention for that and we'll look for our 2,000 volunteers beginning in January 2020."

Watch parties in Toledo are potentially in the works for the 2019 Solheim Cup in Scotland. Even though there is a five hour time difference between Toledo and Scotland - if the World Cup tells us anything - 7 a.m. is never too early for a party to wave the Stars and Stripes.
