TOLEDO (WTVG) - When Steve Scarbrough passed away unexpectedly, the family was understandably in shock. The Central Catholic alumnus was working out in Boston while on a business trip when he suffered cardiac arrest.
In the month since, the Scarbrough family said the Central Catholic High School community has overwhelmed them with support.
In fact, when they found out about Steve's passing, his wife and two daughters didn't return home -- they went to Central Catholic, where they were surrounded by love and support.
Scarbrough was a big supporter of Irish athletics, a fixture at football and basketball games. According to his wife, Friday night plans always centered around Central Catholic.
Steve had formed a friendship with Irish boys basketball coach Mike Floyd. The boys basketball team now plays with a patch with Steve's initials, SJS, on their jerseys.
The Irish -- with Steve's initials on their chest -- will open their Division I tournament schedule at 8 p.m. tonight when they face Anthony Wayne at Start High School.
