Summary: The Eagles had the greatest season in program history last year so it won’t be easy topping that. They’ll try after losing 18 seniors. Seven seniors are on the roster this year so the count on them and several juniors and sophomores to get the job done. Coach Craig Rutherford simply wants his team to be a tough team that plays hard and has fun. Craig’s father, Jerry, was the longtime head coach at Eastwood. He retired, stepped away for the 2017 season, but has returned to coach the offensive line. Craig said, “I lost my best babysitter.” Craig and his wife have one child with another on the way this fall. That begs the question, is the baby going to come on a Friday night at 7 p.m.? Craig said, “If that’s the case my dad’s going to get one more game (as a head coach).”
