Godsil has pro prospects as Indiana's long snapper

CHICAGO (WTVG) - Former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson had high praise for Dan Godsil's abilities with the Hoosiers prior to the 2016 season.

New head coach Tom Allen also thinks highly of the junior from Ottawa-Glandorf High School. So highly, that Allen has this long snapper on scholarship in Bloomington.

"That's his only job and I tell him, we don't want anybody talking about you," Allen said. "We don't want anyone to notice you because when that's the case, you're doing your job."

That may be the case, but there are people taking notice of this junior.

"He's one of the best in the whole country (at long snapper)," Allen said. "I Fully expect him to be excellent this year. He's an NFL-type long snapper for sure. He's already ranked as one of the top two to three long snappers in the country in college football."

You certainly will not find a line in the box score for long snapping stats, so the true measure may be just don't end up on social media with an on-field gaffe.

"The bottom line is you don't want anybody to talk about him," Allen said. "When they don't, you know he's doing everything right. He's just doing what he's expect to do and that's be accurate with the snaps.

"He's a special one."

Godsil and the Hoosiers open the 2017 season in Bloomington against Ohio State.
