Lourdes had four strong games to start the Orange & Black Classic on Saturday at Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek, Ohio, but slid back in the fifth game and in is 25th place heading into the final day of competition.

The Gray Wolves posted a 4,169 pin fall for the day, and are just seven pins behind Robert Morris (Pa.) heading into Sunday’s Baker action. Lourdes is 13 pins ahead of SCAD-Atlanta in the field of 38 schools. Lindenwood leads the way with a 4,907 pin count, 56 pins ahead of Vincennes.

A team game of 908 in the third game was the high point for Lourdes on Saturday, with three other games of 870 or higher. However, the Gray Wolves rolled just a 657 in the final game of the day to slide back in the pack.

“The guys got out to a decent start,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said afterwards. “They built upon that start the next three games, but we ran into a rough spot in the last game of the day. “Saturday was definitely a learning process.”

Corbin Garris (Newark, Del./Bowling Green H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with three 200s on the day, including a 213 game in the second of the day. Kevin Suttles (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) had the only other 200 on the day for the Gray Wolves, a 201 in game two.

“Corbin led the way for us today,” Bartalone added. “Hunter Smith (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer H.S.) came in late and helped us down the stretch.”

Lourdes will return to the lanes on Sunday morning, rolling four four-game Baker sets to conclude the tournament. Action begins at 9 a.m.
