Lourdes added a second place finish to its resume on Saturday as the Gray Wolves earned a runner-up finish at the West Michigan Laker Classic held at Fairlanes in Grandville, Mich.
The Gray Wolves posted a total pin fall of 6,412, trailing just Aquinas in the overall standings. The Saints posted 6,529 pins on the day. Cornerstone finished third, 51 pins in front of Lourdes.
“Today was a team-building and growth day,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said after the event. “Our ladies came together and battled our way to second. Bryana Twining (Lima, Ohio/Bath H.S.) and Jordyn Stewart (Elida, Ohio/Elida H.S.) started us strong with Briah Wesby (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park H.S.) keeping us together.”
Lourdes saw its traditional game totals improve throughout the first four games, rolling an 887 in the fourth contest. For the day the Gray Wolves averaged 847 in the format, led by Twining’s 907 five-game series. Jenna Beatty (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney H.S.) rolled the lone 200 of the day, a 223 in game four.
The Gray Wolves averaged 181.33 over their 12 Baker format games, including a 747 four-game set to begin. Lourdes had a 200 to start each of the three sets, rolling games of 228, 201, and 204 to begin the series.
After bowling five straight weeks, Lourdes will have three weeks off before returning to the lanes on Nov. 10 for the second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Wayne Bowl in Wayne, Mich., with Concordia (Mich.) serving as the host.
