BLOOMDALE, Ohio (WTVG) - Zoe Shank recently set the single-game scoring mark at Elmwood High School with 42 points against Fostoria.
However, with the way the game began for Shank, many would not expect her to finish that contest with 42 points since she spent time on the bench in the first quarter.
"Coach is like, 'You're not even cutting to the basket,'" Shank said. "I was really mad, very upset with him. So then I was sitting on the bench ranting to our assistant coach - coach (Jason) Barringer."
Barringer is in his third season as an assistant at Elmwood.
"I said, 'You can be as mad at me as you want for coming out or you can go take it out on them,'" Barringer said. "That's what she decided to do. She rebounded like an animal that game. It was great to see her rebound hard."
Shank will pass 1,000 career points this season and that is after not really playing much her freshman year on the varsity. She is also on pace to break the all-time rebounding record for the Royals.
Shank says she will play college hoops at Thomas Moore College - just over the Ohio River in Kentucky. But today, she has something else in mind.
"As a group of seniors, we actually talked about it," Shank said. "We didn't want it to be a good year and then we leave next year and leadership is gone, intensity is gone, scoring is gone, rebounding is gone.
"So we're trying to build it up and build our juniors, and our sophomores and even our freshman up and we want a banner. So we kind of drill that in people's head like we want a banner so we get it this year so you guys keep adding to those banners."
