CASTALIA, Ohio (WTVG) - Jayden Moore is a big reason why Margaretta sits at No. 8 in the latest Ohio AP Division III Girls Basketball Rankings.
Moore leads the Polar Bears in every major statistical category this season.
"A bunch of other coaches - when they talk about us in the paper - they say you can't double team one girl," Moore said. "Other girls are going to step up and that is especially true with our team. We don't have one standout performer, we have four, five or six. It is incredible."
Margaretta head coach Eric Kochendoerfer is in his second season leading the Polar Bears.
"We've been able to use her strength, her finesse," Kochendoerfer said. "She's really bought in and we got into the defensive focus more than anything."
Grace Bias is another forward running with Moore.
"She always goes hard, she never lets down," Bias said. "It's crazy. Like I said, she never backs down from a fight."
Moore is a three year varsity starter, but her game took a break during the summer of 2017.
"I had foot surgery, like reconstructive so I was out that whole summer," Moore said. "So I basically stayed at that same level. I had to put in more in-season work than I thought I would have to. But then this past summer I got to do a lot more individual, a lot more team stuff so we were able to work more together as a team."
Kochendoerfer sees Moore as a future basketball coach.
"She plays tougher than anyone I've ever coached," Kochendoerfer said. "She's one of the toughest players I've ever been around. But what a lot of people don't realize is she's a great player but she's an even better person. She's so coachable and she's a coaches dream.
"She's going to make a great college basketball player."
But first, Margaretta needs some baskets from Moore's junior year. The Polar Bears have four games left in the regular season plus the OHSAA Girls Basketball Tournament.
