The Lourdes men’s soccer team fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday evening as Lawrence Tech netted a late match-winning goal to drop the Gray Wolves 2-1 at the LTU Athletic Field.

“We played really well tonight,” said head coach Barry Spitzer following the contest. “We had a lot of good energy throughout the match. We just struggled to find that final pass tonight. I’m proud of how we played against a very good team.”

Nitram Senderos (Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville/Carl Sandburg) got the scoring under way in the 52nd minute of play after receiving a pass from teammate Reece Riccardi (Jupiter, Fla./Suncoast) and scoring his third goal of the season to give Lourdes a 1-0 lead before the intermission.

From there, the Gray Wolf defense held the Blue Devils’ (10-5-1 overall, 7-2 WHAC) offense in check as Lourdes went into the break holding a 1-0 advantage.

Following a yellow card on the Gray Wolves’ Riley Hogan (Pelham, Ala./Indian Springs), Lawrence Tech would tally its first goal of the evening on a PK kick to knot the contest at 1-1 in the 52nd minute of play.

In the 86th minute of the contest, Lawrence Tech was able to capitalize and find the back of the net and score what would prove to be the decisive goal of the match.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainbleau (La.)) went the distance in the goal for Lourdes, recording three saves.

Lawrence Tech outshot Lourdes by a 22-5 tally and won the corner kick battle by an 11-0 margin.

The Gray Wolves (2-11-1 overall, 1-7-1 WHAC) will close out their road schedule on Wednesday at 1 p.m. as they travel to Concordia before returning home for their regular-season finale on Saturday, October 27 with a meeting against Siena Heights.
