Lourdes University Athletic Director Janet Eaton has announced a change of leadership within the Gray Wolves’ men’s soccer program and that Barry Spitzer has been relieved of his duties as head coach.
“At this time I feel that we need to move in a different direction with regards to our men’s soccer program,” Eaton stated. “We truly appreciate everything Coach Spitzer did in starting the program here at Lourdes and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
Spitzer was named Lourdes University's men's head soccer coach in November of 2014, with the charge of starting the program for the inaugural 2015 season. In his four seasons as the Gray Wolves’ head coach in 2018, Spitzer posted a 21-38-5 record.
In 2017, Spitzer produced the first Second Team All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference selection in program history, and he coached a pair of All-Ohio performers during the inaugural campaign. In addition, six players earned Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors under his guidance.
Spitzer’s players also had success in the classroom at Lourdes. In 2016, he produced a CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection while a pair of student-athletes earned Academic All-District accolades. He also had had two players named to the Academic All-Ohio First Team while three were named to the WHAC All-Academic Team. Spitzer also produced a pair of NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
A search will be conducted for Spitzer’s replacement.
