Lourdes wrapped up the fall portion of the 2018-2019 men’s golf schedule on Friday with a third place finish at the Defiance Invitational held at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio.

The Gray Wolves posted a total of 322, six shots behind second place Aquinas and two strokes in front of fourth place Defiance on the afternoon. Northwestern Ohio won the tournament by 18 shots, firing a round of 298.

“This was definitely not one of our better rounds,” head coach Gil Guerrero said after the tournament. “It was cold and windy and we got off to a horrendous start. We were able to fight back pretty well though.”

Spencer Stubbs (Lima, Ohio/Bath H.S.) and Ryan Fries (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) led the way for Lourdes with four-over par rounds of 76 on the 7,155-yard par-72 layout. The pair tied for fourth place overall. For Stubbs, it was his second top-five finish of the fall while Fries finished in the top five in four of the seven events.

Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) cared a round of 80 while Logan Dray (Lima, Ohio/Perry H.S.) shot 90 to complete the scoring for the Gray Wolves. Hunter DeWeese (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington H.S.) added a round of 93 to complete the team lineup.

Phil Stuart (Jackson, Mich./Luman Christi Catholic H.S.) posted a round of 83 while Jovon Vann (Delta, Ohio/Delta H.S.) carded an 89 as both players competed as individuals.

Northwestern Ohio’s Josh Beatt won the tournament with a one-under par round of 71, three shots better than teammate Cole Thomas, who shot 74 for the Racers.
