Lourdes returned to the hardwood following the Christmas holiday on Saturday afternoon, falling at Grand Valley State 99-30 in an exhibition contest played inside the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Mich.
The Lakers made four three-pointers to start the game while jumping out to a 14-4 advantage and never looked back against the Gray Wolves. Grand Valley State extended the lead to 30-10 after one quarter, and held Lourdes scoreless in the second period while building a 51-10 advantage at the break. The Lakers continued to extend their lead throughout the second half.
Jami Hardy (Perrysburg, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) led Lourdes with eight points while Ra’Zhane Newberry (Cleveland, Ohio/Euclid H.S.) added seven points. The Gray Wolves shot just 24% from the floor while committing 24 turnovers.
Jenn DeBoer led Grand Valley State (11-1) with 17 points, making 5-of-7 from three-point range while Brooke McKinley added 13 points off the bench. The Lakers shot 53.8% from the floor, including 15-of-29 (51.7%) from three-point range, and outrebounded the Gray Wolves 45-25.
Lourdes (5-8) will return to regular season action on Wednesday evening, as the Gray Wolves travel to Lima, Ohio to battle the University of Northwestern Ohio. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside of Racer Gymnasium.
