Lourdes finished in a tie for fourth place on Saturday afternoon at the A.C. Eddy Invitational held at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Ind.
The Gray Wolves finished the round with a total of 309, equaling that of Grace, just three shots behind third place Wayne State. Host Trine won the tournament with a score of 296, three strokes better than runner-up Calvin.
“Our guys played pretty well today, but we still need to work a little bit harder on our chipping and putting,” head coach Gil Guerrero said afterwards. They are still costing us a few shots, but overall we are definitely improving heading toward the conference championships.”
Spencer Stubbs (Lima, Ohio/Bath H.S.) led the way for the Gray Wolves with a round of 74, finishing in a tie for seventh place individually. Hunter DeWeese (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington H.S.) and Phil Stuart (Jackson, Mich./Luman Christi Catholic H.S.) both carded 78s on the 6,384-yard, par-71 layout.
Jovan Vann (Delta, Ohio/Delta H.S.) rounded out the Lourdes scoring for the day with a 79 while Jay Denman (Toledo, Ohio/Saint Francis de Sales H.S.) carded an 81 to close out the lineup.
Defiance’s Federico Gutierrez fired a two-under par round of 69 to win the individual title, finishing a shot in front of Cameron Ruge from Trine.
Lourdes will play its final tune-up for the league championships on Wednesday, as the team hosts the Gray Wolf Invitational. Action begins at 10 a.m. at the Legacy Golf Club.
