Lourdes competed in its second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season on Saturday afternoon at Wayne Bowl in Wayne, Mich., finishing in ninth place.
The Gray Wolves posted a total pin count of 6,520 over four traditional games and four four-game Baker sets, finishing just 11 pins behind eighth place Huntington. Lourdes was 42 pins ahead of 10th place Michigan-Dearborn for the day.
Lawrence Tech won the jamboree with 7,292 pins, while Indiana Tech finished runner-up with a score of 7,020.
“After being down in 11th place, the fought hard to climb as high as seventh at one point,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said. “The guys worked as one unit today. Even though the ninth place finish doesn’t show how well the team bowled today, they showed what they are made of and how good they are growing to be.”
The third traditional game was Lourdes’ best on the day, posting a five-man team score of 912. Kobe Franklin (Chicago, Ill./DRW College Prep H.S.) led the way with a four-game series of 777, including a high game of 223 in the second of the day. He finished in a tie for 24th place overall.
“Kobe stepped up and led the way through traditional games with support from Corbin Garris (Newark, Del./Bowling Green H.S.),” Bartalone added. “After getting off to a rough start through the traditional games, the team came together for Bakers.”
In the Baker sets, the Gray Wolves in the second set, rolling an 850, with all four games over 200. The set score was the best for Lourdes this year, and was also the highest for any team in the competition on the afternoon.. The team had a high of 226 during the second game of the stanza.
Lourdes will return to action next Saturday, competing in the BGSU Falcon Classic hosted by Bowling Green. Action begins at 9 a.m. at Interstate Lanes in Rossford, Ohio.
