Lourdes posted a third place finish on Saturday at the West Michigan Laker Classic held at Fairlanes in Grandville, Mich., the team’s highest placing of the year.

The Gray Wolves finished the day with a 6,483-pin total, nearly 100 more than fourth place Aquinas. Olivet won the tournament with a pin fall of 6,895, 79 more than runner-up Rochester (Mich.).

The men started the day with three 900-games in the traditional format, including a high of 918 in the third game, on their way to averaging 877.6 for the five games.

Tommy Gunter (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor H.S.) rolled a five-game series of 1,000, finishing in fourth place overall while earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. He had a high game of 233 while adding another 219 to his resume.

Jordan Bellair (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) bowled a 213 in game one while Skyler Briggs (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee H.S.) added a 206 in the third game.

The Gray Wolves slowly improved throughout the three four-game Baker sets, finishing with a 717 over the final four games. A 212 to open the final set highlighted the day, as Lourdes averaged 174.58 over the 12 games.

“Today was a good day and a growing day,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said afterwards. “The team really came together with Thomas leading the way early while Skyler and Jordan added support. The team worked together through the Bakers and helped finish strong to earn their best finish of the year.”

After bowling five straight weeks, Lourdes will have three weeks off before returning to the lanes on Nov. 10 for the second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Wayne Bowl in Wayne, Mich., with Concordia (Mich.) serving as the host.
