Midway through the ITC/ISC Sectional qualifier at 30 Strikes in Stratford, N.J., the Lourdes women’s bowling team is in 10th place in a field of 14 schools after rolling 32 Baker games on Saturday.
The Gray Wolves posted a 32-game total of 5,570, and are just 16 pins behind ninth place Malloy at the midway point of the competition.
“The ladies had a great beginning here at sectionals and have a lot of positive experiences to take from today to add to tomorrow,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said afterwards. “Jimi McNew (Monroe, Mich./Monroe H.S.) came in today and was a big part in helping the momentum for us as Jordyn Stewart (Elida, Ohio/Elida H.S.) hammered the pocket all day.”
Lourdes began strong in the morning session, and was in sixth place after the opening 16 games with a total of 2,888, just 20 pins out of the fourth and final qualifying position for the national championships.
The fourth set of the day turned out to be a season-high for the Gray Wolves, as Lourdes finished the four games with a score of 837, 39 pins better than any other set this year. Amongst the set was a season-high game of 244 in the Baker format.
In all, Lourdes rolled four 200+ games on the day.
Maryland-Eastern Shore leads the competition at the midway point with a pin fall of 6,077 while Delaware State is second at 6,025.
