Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes continues non-conference action this week with a pair of contests. The Gray Wolves entertain Wright State-Lake at home on Tuesday evening before heading to Carlow for a Saturday afternoon matinee.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his third season on the Lourdes bench Josh Gibson has a 19-42 (.311) record. Overall as a men’s collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 80-100 (.444) record in his seventh season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program’s history.
Series Notes: Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Wright State Lake 81-67 last season on Nov. 7, 2017 in Celina, Ohio. This will be the Lakers first trip to the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves are 1-0 all-time against Carlow, downing the Celtics 78-74 in overtime inside the Ebeid Rec Center on Nov. 11, 2017. Saturday marks the Gray Wolves’ first trip to Pittsburgh, Pa.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes opened the season with an 83-69 victory over East-West on Wednesday night. Kadeim Jones led the Gray Wolves with 25 points while Clif Snow and Brett Lauf each added 13. Lourdes faced second-ranked Indiana East on Friday evening at the Bernie Holowicki Classic, and forced the Red Wolves to double-overtime before falling 90-85. Snow had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Lauf added 21 points and Jones scored 19. The Gray Wolves concluded play at the Bernie Holowicki Classic on Saturday with a 76-72 triumph over East-West. Lauf scored 19 points while Bryce McComb added 17 more.
Scouting Wright State-Lake: The Lakers have dropped back-to-back games after falling 112-83 on Sunday afternoon at Georgetown (Ky.). Byron Taylor leads Wright State-Lake averaging 20.6 points per game. Antonio McQueen has added 19.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per outing for the Lakers while Patrick McClendon has poured in 16.6 points per contest.
Scouting Carlow: The Celtics opened their 2018-2019 season on Sunday with an 88-71 victory over Bryant and Stratton. Carlow faces Villa Maria on Monday night and Saint Vincent on Friday before hosting Lourdes.
Lauf Named to All-Classic Team: Brett Lauf was named to the Bernie Holowicki All-Classic Team following the weekend’s action. The Gray Wolf sophomore averaged 20 points and 5.5 assists per contest while shooting 51.9% from the floor against Indiana East and East-West.
Four Average in Double Figures: Lourdes has had four players average in double figures through the first three games of the season. Brett Lauf is tallying 17.7 points per contest, scoring at least 13 points per outing with a season-high of 21 against Indiana East. Kadeim Jones has added 16.7 points per outing after scoring 25 in the season opener against East-West and posting 19 versus Indiana East. Clif Snow has added 15.0 points per game while Deuce Martin is currently scoring 10.0 points per night.
Snow Dials Up Season’s First Double-Double: Clif Snow registered the Gray Wolves’ first double-double of the year against Indiana East, scoring 23 points while adding 10 rebounds. He nearly accomplished the feat one night later against East-West, falling one point shy and finishing with nine points and 10 boards. The double-double was the fourth of Snow’s career.
Making Free Throws: As a team Lourdes shot 81.9% (68-of-83) from the charity stripe during the opening week of the year. Kadeim Jones led the way making 21 of his 23 attempts, connecting at a 91.3% clip. As a team, Lourdes shot just 65.9% from the free throw stripe in 2017-2018.
Lending a Helping Hand: Brett Lauf averaged 5.0 assists per game over his first three contests as Gray Wolf. He posted a 1:1 assist-to-turnover ratio with his 15 helpers, including eight against Indiana East.
Lourdes Tabbed Ninth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in ninth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league’s head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Northwestern Ohio and just behind Concordia (Mich.) in the league balloting. Indiana Tech was the favorite to win the WHAC in 2018-2019.
Newcomers See Action: Six Gray Wolves saw their first action at Lourdes University during the season’s opening week. Brett Lauf started all three games for Lourdes while Julian Egbo started two games and Christian Wagenhauser started one for the Gray Wolves. Tyler Kegley came off the bench in all three contests while Caiden Smith made two appearances and Eddie Murphy saw action in the season opener against East-West.
Lengthy Games: Lourdes had never played a game that lasted more than one overtime until last season when the Gray Wolves went two extra sessions at Indiana-South Bend and three at Northwestern Ohio. With the double-overtime loss to Indiana East on a neutral court, Lourdes has still yet to play multiple overtimes at home. The Gray Wolves are 0-3 all-time when playing 50 or more minutes.
This and That: Bryce McComb did not score in the first two games of the year before dropping 17 on East-West on Saturday ... Clif Snow has made 7-of-17 (41.2%) three-pointers on the year ... this is the second straight season Lourdes has started the year with a 2-1 record (started 4-1 in 2017-2018).
