TOLEDO - The Marathon Classic presented by Owens Corning & O-I announced today that amateurs Monica Vaughn, Linnea Strom, and Leona Maguire have been selected to receive sponsor’s exemptions into this year’s tournament scheduled for July 20-23 at Highland Meadows Golf Club.
Vaughn from Arizona State University won the NCAA Individual title at this year’s NCAA Women’s Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois. Vaughn was also named this year’s PAC-12 Women’s Player of the Year, and won the prestigious Honda Award for Golf.
Strom was a key member of Arizona State’s National Championship Team and was also named First Team All-Conference in the PAC-12.
Maguire was the runner up for the NCAA Individual Title at this year’s NCAA Women’s Championship. She’s also won the coveted Mark H McCormack Medal for being ranked the #1 women’s golfer in the World Amateur Golf Rankings the past two years. Maguire competed in the 2016 Olympics in Rio for her home country of Ireland and tied for 21st overall. She has also received the ANNIKA National Collegiate Player of the Year award the past two years.

All three ladies were named first-team All-America this year by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. This year’s Marathon Classic will also include defending champion Lydia Ko, and notable LPGA stars Stacy Lewis, Michelle Wie, and Gerina Piller.
Since 1984, the Marathon LPGA Classic has raised over $9.8 million for 170 northwest Ohio children’s charities. This year’s tournament will benefit 23 area children’s charities. To support this year’s tournament patrons can purchase tickets through the Marathon Classic Charity Ticket Program online or at Toledo area Kroger stores and designate an area children’s charity to receive 100% of the purchase price.
