The Lourdes men’s soccer team had its fifth game of the season decided by just one goal as it dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision at Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference-foe Aquinas on Saturday afternoon.

Savio Adams (Cape Town, South Africa/Zeekoevlei/San Jacinto) wasted no time giving the Gray Wolves the early lead, scoring his second goal of the season just 2:01 into the contest.

A Manny Ibarra goal in the 20th minute proved to be the equalizer in the first half. From there, the defenses would keep the score knotted at 1-1 heading into the intermission.

In the 78th minute of play, the Saints (1-10 overall, 1-4 WHAC) were able to execute a corner kick and a header from Nic Ellingboe found the back of the net and allowed Aquinas to take a 2-1 lead.

Lourdes would manage three corner kicks and two shots within the final eight minutes of the match, but could not capitalize and Aquinas went on to claim the 2-1 victory.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainbleau (La.)) got the start between the posts for Lourdes, recording two saves in 90 minutes.

Aquinas tallied 23 shots compared to Lourdes’ 16 shots, while each team recorded four corner kicks.

The Gray Wolves (2-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 WHAC) will return to the pitch on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Lima to take on UNOH at Racer Field.
