Just a few days after their season opening victory at the Ohio Cup, the University of Findlay men`s golf team were back in action at the Don Underwood Invitational at the Meadows. The team competed in the first and second round on Monday, September 9 where they sit in (place) after 36 holes. Their two round total of (two round total) consisted of rounds of 288 (+4) and (second round).
In the first round, the Oilers were led by sophomore duo Caleb Westfall and Tanner Grzegorcyzk. The pair each shot an even par 71 for the Oilers.
Along with Westfall and Grzegorcyzk, Luke Kelly and Parker Haynes each shot 73 (+2) respectively in the first round. Rounding out the scoring for the Oilers was Findlay native Sam Griffith with a 74 (+3). After the first round, the Oilers would be two shots back of the lead to first place team Wayne State.
Competing as an individual at the tournament, sophomore Hunter Foltz would go on to shot a one under par, 70 in the opening round of the Don Underwood Invitational.
After starting the second round in second after a well-performed first, the Oilers were able to compile another fantastic round to give them the 36-hole lead by four strokes over Wayne State.
Also, in solo lead heading into the final round is sophomore Westfall. Westfall holds a one stroke lead after a two round total of 140 (71,69). He will look to capture his second tournament win this season.
The Oilers also would get solid play from Kelly with a 36-hole score of 143 (73,70) which places him in a tie for sixth. Griffith (74,74), Haynes (73,75), and Grzegorczyk (71,77) sit in a tie for 20th after the 36 holes going into tomorrow`s round.
Foltz would round out the scoring for the Oilers after the two rounds with a great score of 142 (70,72) which places him in a tie for fourth.
The Oilers will look to capture their second win in the same amount of tournaments this season. The final round begins Tuesday, September 10 once more at The Meadows in Allendale, Michigan.
