The University of Findlay men's basketball team is going dancing. The Oilers earned the No. 3 seed in the 2018 NCAA Division II Midwest Region and will be one of 64 teams vying for the national championship this season.
The Oilers, who are 26-4 on the year, will be making their 14th appearance in the national tournament. They will face No. 6 Drury University in the opening round of the tournament, which is slated to take place on March 10 in Big Rapids, Mich. The winner of the Midwest Region will then advance to the Elite 8, which is scheduled to take place on March 21-24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Findlay has achieved an 18-12 record in NCAA Division II Tournament games since becoming a full-time member during the 2000-01 campaign. The program reached the Elite 8 for the first time in school history during the 2004-05 campaign and advanced to the Sweet 16 during the 2007-08 and 2016-17 campaigns. The Oilers ran the table during the 2008-09 season, finishing the year with a perfect 36-0 record en route to a national championship victory over Cal Poly Pomona in overtime.
During the 2017-18 campaign, the Oilers finished as the regular season champions in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Senior forward Taren Sullivan was named the G-MAC Player of the Year while head coach Charlie Ernst was tabbed the G-MAC Coach of the Year. Sullivan and senior guard Martyce Kimbrough each earned first team all-conference honors while senior guard Elijah Kahlig was voted honorable mention all-league.
