The 12th-ranked University of Findlay women's golf team sits in fourth place after day one of the Perry Park Spring Fling, which was played on March 30 in Perry Park, Ky. The Oilers shot a 311 on the first day and are six strokes off the lead, which is being held by Missouri-St. Louis (305).
Freshman Jill Schmitmeyer led the Oilers during the opening round as she carded a 2-over par score of 74 while junior Samantha Kellstrom posted a 3-over par score of 75. Schmitmeyer is currently tied for fourth while Kellstrom is tied for 11th.
Senior Makenzie Torres fired a 5-over par score of 77 and is tied for 16th with sophomore teammate Kristina Kniesly. Junior Meredith Wipper is following close behind and is tied for 24th with a 78 while senior Samantha Hatter is tied for 29th with a 79.
Juniors Mackenzie Keenoy (82) and Mikaela Hickey (83) are also competing for Findlay at the event.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
