The University of Toledo women's track and field team closed out day two of the Mid-American Conference Championships in Muncie, Ind. with three podium appearances and one finals qualifier. Going into tomorrow's final day of action the Rockets are in ninth place with 15 total points.

"I feel pretty good today, things went pretty well," said head coach Linh Nguyen. "We had a couple close misses, but we also had a couple close calls for us. Katie Dewey just missed (scoring) in the shot, even though she threw really well today. Madison Pierce stepped up and got points in the long jump for us. Olivia Chinn had a great race and Roma Lucarelli, even though she didn't score, had a great race as well with a PR. We also got some more people through to finals, so I think it was a good day."

Pierce landed on the podium after recording a season-best jump of 5.68m in the long jump to take eighth place.

On the track senior Shanice Williams earned her spot in Saturday's 100m finals. She led the Rockets with a time of 11.81 to take fourth. Fellow seniors Nautica Hill and Christina Johnson took 11th (12.10) and 12th (12.27), respectively.

The day wrapped with an impressive performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase, where Chinn took third, medaling for the first time with a personal-best of 10:34.90. Said Nguyen of Chinn's race, "It was awesome for her to have that kind of race and run that tough. She made the race. She's the one that kind of took the pace and made the race fast. She got a PR, she got a medal for the first time ever as a senior, and for her to go out that way is just amazing."

Lucarelli also competed in the 3K steeplechase, landing 10th and posting a personal best of 11:08.81.

Dewey led the Rockets in the shot put, taking ninth with a throw of 14.95m. Fellow senior Sally Frank took 15th with a throw of 13.21m and sophomore Chloee Kleespies took 17th with a mark of 12.72m.

The heptathlon finished after two days of competition with junior Atalia Lima scoring 4596 points to take seventh and her position on the podium. Lima notched second-place finishes in the long jump (5.41m) and javelin (37.36m) categories.

Up Next
The Rockets conclude competition at the MAC Championships on Saturday with track events beginning with the 4x100m relay at 1:00 p.m. and field events beginning with discus at 2:30 p.m.

"Tomorrow is a big day for us," said Linh. "We've got Katie (Dewey) going in the discus. We have Janelle (Noe) and Petronela (Simiuc) in the 1500 meters, who should be among the contenders, Shanice (Williams) is in the 100, Nautica (Hill) in the 200 and Yana (Khabina) in the hurdles. And then we have the 5K with Athena (Welsh) who will be fresh. I think we have a chance to put big points on the board tomorrow, which is what we're looking to do. We've got a few solid point totals, but we're looking for the big ones on Saturday."
