Lourdes picked up its ninth consecutive victory on Friday evening, as the Gray Wolves swept the University of Michigan-Dearborn 27-25, 25-18, 25-21 inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.

The victory marked the 200th in the career of head coach Greg Reitz, who is in his 10th season overall (200-144), and ninth at Lourdes (182-109).

“We continue to play well at home in front of such great fans that give us such strong support,” Reitz said following the match. “We had to battle in the first set to earn the win and were able to carry that momentum into the second and third sets.”

The Gray Wolves had to battle from behind in an opening set that saw both schools hit better than .325, with 12 ties and eight lead changes. Michigan-Dearborn jumped in front 7-2 before the Gray Wolves went on a 6-0 run of their own to forge ahead. With Lourdes in front 13-12, the Wolverines scored six unanswered of their own to retake the lead, 18-13. The Gray Wolves fought back, evening the set at 21, before extending the set into extra points, with Carol Goncalves’ (Brazilia, Brazil/Sagrado Corcacao de Maria H.S.) service ace securing the win. Lourdes hit .327 with 22 kills in the opening stanza while the Wolverines put down 16 kills with just one error, and hit .341.

Lourdes continued to stay hot in set two, hitting .294, but the defense limited Michigan-Dearborn to just 11 kills and a .077 hitting mark. With Lourdes in front 13-11, the Gray Wolves went on a 7-1 spurt to pull away, building a 2-0 lead in the match.

A 9-2 run midway through the third set allowed Lourdes to build a 19-10 advantage, and the Gray Wolves were able to withstand a late Wolverine run. Michigan-Dearborn closed to within three, 22-19, but back-to-back kills by Emily Drenth (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.) ended any thoughts of a Wolverine comeback attempt.

The Gray Wolves finished the match hitting .266 as a team, with Goncalves handing out 38 assists while registering 11 digs. Monique Oliveira (Rio Branco, Brazil/Americo Rene Giannetti H.S.) put down a match-high 13 kills while hitting .480 and Emily Arnold (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added 12 kills, swinging at a .579 clip.

Tylar Roberson (Elkhart, Ind./Central H.S.) had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs while Drenth tallied 11 kills. Defensively, Niki Polce (New Boston, Mich./Huron H.S.) notched 14 digs while Arnold and Oliveira had three blocks each.

Bronte Michura led Michigan-Dearborn (4-15, 1-9 WHAC) with 10 kills and hit .276 while Caitlyn Carlson had a match-high 18 digs.

Lourdes (13-1, 10-1) will look for its 10th consecutive victory overall, and its 12th straight home win on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves welcome Concordia (Mich.) to the Ebeid Rec Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
