Toledo Swimming & Diving Announces 2019-20 Season
The University of Toledo swimming & diving team is scheduled to host five home meets this season, fourth-year head coach Jonas Persson, OLY announced Monday.
"We have a very solid schedule that includes some competitive dual meets," said Persson. "We also have some back-to-back meets that will help us get used to the stressful schedule at conference. We will be attending the TYR Invitational the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is a new addition for us and will help see where we are at mid-season. In addition, we are making the commitment to attend the U.S. Open to get some long-course racing in at the very highest level, since it is an Olympic year. My staff and the athletes are ready to get the season started!"
The Rockets will open the season on the road, as the team travels to Lawrence, Kan. for the CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water on Sept. 14. Toledo will then head back to the "Glass City" to host the annual Blue and Gold Meet on Sept. 27 before welcoming back former Rockets on Oct. 5 for the annual Alumni Meet. In mid-October, Toledo will entertain Oakland on Oct. 18, and then travel to Youngstown, Ohio on Oct. 19. The Rockets close out the month of October on the road to face Mid-American Conference member Akron on Oct. 25.
Toledo opens the month of November at home, welcoming Florida Gulf Coast and Marshall for a tri-meet on Nov. 8. Later in the month, the Rockets will venture to Evanston, Ill. for the TYR Invitational hosted by Northwestern University. The meet is set for Nov. 22-24.
In early December, the Rockets will attend the U.S. Open, formerly known as U.S. Winter Nationals, in Atlanta. The team will close out 2019 in Indianapolis with a tri-meet against the University of Indianapolis and Findlay on Dec. 16.
The Rockets will begin 2020 with a trip to Indiana to compete in dual meets against Ball State and Indiana State on Jan. 16 and 17, respectively. To close out the month of January, Toledo will host Buffalo on Jan. 25 for its final home meet of the season.
The Rockets will wrap up regular-season dual meets against Bowling Green on Feb. 7-8. The team will close out the regular season on Feb. 16, traveling to Rochester, Mich. to compete in the Oakland Long-Course Time Trials.
The diving team is also scheduled to travel to two invitationals this season. In the beginning of December, the team will travel to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Diving Invitational on Dec. 6-7. A couple of weeks later, the diving team will venture to Buffalo, N.Y. for the Buffalo Diving Invitational on Jan. 10-12.
"I'm excited to get back into the pool and see what the divers can do this year in competition," said diving coach Gabby Agostino. "I'm looking forward to our two diving invites. Going to Buffalo will be a great opportunity for us since the conference championships will be held there. We can't wait to get started!"
The 2020 MAC Championships are set for Feb. 26-29 in Buffalo with the MAC Last Chance Meet set for March 1.
The CSCAA National Invitational Championships will take place on March 12-14 in Cleveland, the NCAA Zone Diving is set for March 12-14, and the NCAA Championships will be hosted in Athens, Ga. on March 18-21.
