The University of Toledo women's cross country team finished fifth at the Bradley Pink Classic in their second to last meet of the regular season on Friday.

Junior Athena Welsh led the Rockets with a time of 20:36.1 to finish in second place. Senior Jennifer Lichter placed 36th (21.33.2), sophomore Michelle Hostettler was 45th (21.45.3), freshman Claire Steigerwald finished 50th (21:49.4), and junior Stephanie Sherman was 56th (21.49.4).

"I'm pretty happy with the way things went today overall," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "Athena got out well and had another tremendous race. She beat some women with terrific credentials."

Several Rockets competed in the 2:30 p.m. (CT) open race. Roma Lucarelli secured eighth place (22.45.8) and Riley Kwiatkowski took 18th place (23:00.3).

"The women in the open race ran great and were led by a huge PR from Roma (Lucarelli)," added Nguyen.
For the men, junior Dismas Koech led the Rockets, placing 71st with a time of 25:45.9. Sophomore Jake Papish finished 83rd(25:54.2), senior Jacob Wistinghausen was 113th (26:11.2), freshman Joel Duffield placed 186th (26:45.5), and senior Josh Oeters was 190th (26:49.1).

"The men had a similar issue as the women, in that they didn't get out well and had a lot of ground to make up," Nguyen said. "From 1K to the finish, they ran well. It was great to see Papish have a strong race."

The Midnight Blue and Gold finished 26th as a team with 641 points.

The Rockets race again at the Eastern Michigan Classic on October 19 at 4:30 p.m.
