The University of Toledo women's golf team sits in seventh place following Friday's opening round of Kentucky's Bettie Lou Evans Invitational. The Rockets shot 11-over par 299 as a team and is just four shots behind third-place Middle Tennessee.

"I thought we had a decent day overall and our energy on the course is great," first-year Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "We have a few things to tidy up in different areas. There are a few specific challenges on this course, and I feel like we handled them well. Tomorrow we are committing to believing in our game plan and continuing to work little by little and improve each day."

Host Kentucky leads the 12-team field with an impressive eight-under par 280, 11 shots in front of second-place Notre Dame. The Wildcats' Rikke Svejgaard and Sarah Shipley carded the top two rounds of the day with a four-under par 68 and three-under par 69, respectively.

Three Rockets are separated by three strokes on the individual leaderboard with senior Pimchanok Kawil tied for 16th place at one-over par 73 to lead the way. She opened her round with nine straight pars before collecting a birdie at No. 10. Bogeys at No. 12 and No. 15 left her at one-over.

Senior Pinyada Kuvanun is tied for 20th place at two-over par 74, while junior Saranlak Tumfong is tied for 27th place at three-over par 75. Tumfong was even through 12 holes but ended up with bogeys on the No. 13, 15 and 18 holes. Kuvanun didn't register her first birdie until the 17th hole after notching bogeys on the No. 4, No. 8 and No. 10 holes.
