The University of Toledo women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Rocket Invitational on Saturday.
Play opened with singles matches that had been in progress and delayed by Friday's evening rain. Senior Kokoro Chishaki, the only UT player whose match had been delayed, bagged a win against Duquesne's Aishwarya Kona 6-4, 7-5.
Scheduled play resumed with doubles, where the Midnight Blue and Gold faced Duquesne and Youngstown State. The Rockets swept Duquesne in doubles where Chishaki/freshman Kiersten Carlson defeated Maranda Sears/Margot Pessy 6-3, the senior/junior duo Thalita Rodrigues/Dee Dee Lennabanchong downed Priyanka Mitta/Meredith Lee 6-0, and senior Claire Aleck/freshman Christina Fuller edged Maddy Adams/Miranda Bishard 7-5.
In the second round of doubles, the Rockets fought Youngstown State where Chishaki/Carlson defeated Imaan Hassim/Cassandra Moraleja (6-3) and Aleck/Fuller defeated Anastasiia Khokhlova/Zagar (6-1).
The day concluded with singles play against Oakland, where the Rockets secured several victories. Fuller defeated Sofia Borcuti (6-4, 7-5) while Aleck defeated Amanda Nilsson (7-5, 6-2). Rodrigues defeated Samantha Galloway in three hard-fought sets (6-2, 3-6, 11-9).
Winners of each flight at each position were named at the end of the day. Rodrigues/Leenabanchong won No. 2 doubles. Leenabanchong tied with Oakland's Thielman and Duquesne's Pessy for No. 1 singles. Chishaki won No. 3 singles and Fuller and Aleck won No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Rockets are slated to compete next in the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Thursday-Tuesday, October 18-23.
