The Toledo women's team closed their first day of the Rocket Invitational on Friday.
The invite opened with doubles, where senior Thalita Rodrigues/junior Dee Dee Leenabanchong defeated Oakland's Alexandra Whall/Amanda Nilsson 6-4.
In singles play, the Rockets locked in four wins over Youngstown State. Freshman Christina Fuller defeated Lucia Zagar (6-2, 6-1), senior Claire Aleck defeated Elvira Esteo (6-4, 6-1), Leenabanchong defeated Imaan Hassim (6-0, 6-4), and senior Kokoro Chishaki defeated Tamara Teufl in three hard-fought sets (4-6, 6-1, 10-7).
Toledo competed against Duquesne in the afternoon session. Rodrigues secured a victory over Maranda Sears (6-0, 6-2), Fuller defeated Meredith Lee (6-3, 7-6(0)), and freshman Kiersten Carlson defeated Miranda Bishard (6-4, 6-0). Chishaki's match against Aishwarya Kona was delayed due to rain and will be completed on Saturday.
"It was a good first day of the invite, especially the two rounds of singles," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "I look forward to seeing some adjustments made in doubles tomorrow."
