The Toledo women's tennis team finished its second day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Friday.
In singles play, junior Dee Dee Leenabanchong fought her way to the individual main draw bracket with a win over Detroit Mercy's Jasmine Apawti in two sets (6-3, 6-2).
"Dee Dee was extremely focused for today's match," said head coach Tracy Mauntler. "She's playing with a ton of confidence, which is fun to see."
The Rockets fell early in doubles play with Michigan State's Lauren Lemonds/Caroline Szabo defeating Leenabanchong/Rodrigues 8-5. Freshman/senior duo Kiersten Carlson/Kokoro Chishaki made it to the second round, defeating Akron's Sophia Geier/Holland Long (8-5) before falling to Michigan's Alyvia Jones/Bella Lorenzini.
"It was good to see Kokoro and Kiersten come back after being down 4-1 against Akron," Mauntler added. "They played some great doubles down the stretch."
Play resumes Saturday.
