Lourdes moved up two positions in the standings on Sunday during the final day of the Cardinal Classic, and finished in third place at Munsee Lanes in Muncie, Ind.
The Gray Wolves finished the tournament with a pin count of 6,509, just 96 pins behind runner-up Cumberlands (Ky.). Wright State, the overnight leader, won the event with a total pin fall of 6,720. Judson, which entered the final 16 games of action in second place, fell to fourth, 18 pins behind Lourdes.
“The ladies had a phenomenal day today,” head coach Torrie Bartalone said afterwards. “We struggled out of the gate today, but we gained 142 pins in the last set and I am so proud of them. We know what we need to do moving forward as our spare shooting was rough, but our chemistry is improving shot to shot. We are ready for WHAC play.”
The Gray Wolves averaged 162.7 for the 40 games on the weekend, including 159.3 for the four sets on Sunday. Lourdes rolled its best set of the day, and second best of the weekend, in its final block, rolling a 732 for the four games. The team’s three highest games of the day, 194, 190, and 184, took place during the set.
Lourdes will return to the lanes on Saturday as the Gray Wolves compete in the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season. Action begins at 8 a.m. at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Mich. for the event hosted by Michigan-Dearborn.
