Cinderella postseason comes to an end, as Wolverines lose CWS to Vanderbilt

OMAHA, Neb. (WTVG) - With an 8-2 victory in Game 3 Wednesday night, Vanderbilt is the winner of the 2019 College World Series.

Still, it was quite the season for the Wolverines.

Michigan wasn't ranked leading into the 2019 College World Series, getting a #3 seed and a spot in the Corvalis regional bracket. After winning their first two games against Oregon State and Cincinnati, the Wolverines lost to Creighton, but downed the Bluejays in the rematch of the double-elimination round to advance.

Michigan then defeated UCLA two games to one in a best-of-three series to head to the College World Series in Omaha, where the top eight teams in the country would decide the national championship.

They snapped off three straight wins at TD Ameritrade Park - two over Texas Tech - as well as a 15-3 drubbing of the Red Raiders last Friday to advance to the finals against the 2014 national champions, the Vanderbilt Commodores.

The Wolverines won 7-4 Monday, with Vandy evening the series with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday, setting the stage for Wednesday's finale.

This was the first time Michigan qualified for the national tournament since 1984.
