The Toledo women's swimming and diving team hosted its first home meet of the season Saturday, splitting a tri-meet with Ball State and Oakland. The Rockets defeated the Cardinals, 207.5-92.5, and fell to the Golden Grizzlies, 165.5-134.5.
"I thought we competed very well today," said head coach Jonas Persson. "We had a lot of solid individual performances, and we are starting to come together as a team. It was great to get a win against a MAC opponent, and we were very competitive against Oakland. We are back to work on Monday, and are very motivated to keep working hard."
The Rockets were paced by sophomore Duda Sales, who took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.78. Freshman Macarena Garcia also earned a victory in the 400 yard IM by posting a time of 4:27.49. Toledo also secured its first team relay victory of the season in the 400 freestyle relay, with the team of freshman Lisa Eriksson, senior Allison Dicke, sophomore Izzy Jones and freshman Alida Ramden posting a 3:27.44 in the event.
Senior Danielle Forbes highlighted the Rockets' diving efforts on the afternoon, finishing in fourth place in the one-meter diving competition. Freshman Megan Peepers placed fifth for the Rockets in the three-meter diving with a score of 196.
"I am proud of how (freshman) Elayna (Yoskovich), Megan and Danielle did today," said graduate assistant diving coach Gabrielle Agostino. "They are working hard in the pool and making improvements daily. We still have a long way to go, but we are making steps in the right direction."
Toledo will return to action in two weeks, when it hosts Findlay and Tiffin in a tri-meet on Saturday, November 18. The meet is scheduled to being at 1:00 p.m. at the UT Student Recreation Center pool.
