About Us

As a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, St. John's Jesuit inspires young men in Grades 6-12 to become Men for Others.

St. John’s Jesuit High School was founded in 1898 and re-established in 1965 as a four-year, college preparatory high school for young men. In 2004, St. John’s Jesuit established the Academy for seventh and eighth grade students, and in 2011, a sixth grade was added to the Academy.

SJJ is a part of the largest international educational network of almost 4,000 schools educating close to three million students. In the United States alone, the Jesuits sponsor 28 colleges and universities and 59 high schools.

Cura Personalis, Latin for “care for the entire person,” is a hallmark of Jesuit spirituality and educational philosophy. It inspires teachers to listen to students and build relationships with them – to guide them in taking responsibility for their learning. It remains a constant focus in all St. John’s Jesuit does.

SJJ leads the area in its number of National Merit Scholars over the last decade. Graduates are offered millions in college scholarships and grants. Donors have helped create an endowment that yields funds given annually in tuition assistance. More than half of the nearly 1,000 students who attend St. John’s Jesuit receive need-based financial aid.

St. John’s Jesuit is accredited as a college preparatory school by the State of Ohio, the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, and the Jesuit Secondary Education Association.

Our community knows the meaning of Magis. It's a Latin word, meaning "the more." More is, in fact, what we call forth from our students. We want them to do everything to the best of their abilities, and we hope they leave here with a clear mission to build a better world.

Our Mission

St. John’s Jesuit develops Christian leaders. As a Catholic school in the Jesuit tradition, we inspire each student to achieve his greatest potential in a diverse, Christ-centered atmosphere distinguished by academic success and service as a man for others.
