FULTON COUNTY (13abc Action News) - North Star BlueScope Steel leaders in Delta say no one was injured after an explosion struck one of their furnaces.
The company employs about 370 workers but did not say how many workers were inside when it happened.
"Happy to report no employees were injured. Our emergency teams responded and did a great job, our local fire departments did a great job putting out some small fires. We're assessing the damages at this point and when we know more will report more," said Mike Hanson, the Vice President of Sales for North Star BlueScope Steel.
Viewers who live in that area called the 13abc Action News Department to say they heard the boom and the explosion rocked their homes.
The plant is on Route 2 just west of downtown Delta and the explosion was reported just after 4pm Saturday.
The company is a well known supplier of hot rolled coils and flat rolled steel produced at their mill plant. So far the company has not stated what caused this furnace explosion.
